Hailed by Scott Cantrell of The Dallas Morning News as "a potent mezzo, impressively even from top to bottom..." and an “impressive musical dramatist...,” mezzo-soprano Brooke Clark Gibson has garnered critical praise for her dramatic sound and vivid character portrayals in opera and concert repertoire. Chester Rosson of Texas Monthly magazine wrote, “... Is there any role that she can’t play?”
A frequent recitalist and concert artist, Brooke takes immense joy in curating programs of an autobiographical nature. Known as a champion of composers and new works, she is honored to have recently premiered the role of Tricia in American composer Robert Gross’ one-act chamber opera Dissonance released on New Focus Recordings. Additional premieres have included Shawn Okpebholo's arrangement He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, composer Robert Gross’ work The Gift Wrap and the Jewel and his settings of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poetry, Blind Labyrinth's Synaesthete’s Night Out At The Café, Simon Sargon’s Patterns in Blue (Voces Intimae), and collaborations with Pulitzer Prize nominated composer Gregory Sullivan Isaacs for the opera The Yellow Rose of Texas (the title role specifically composed for her voice), among others. This season, she is excited to premiere American composer Robert Gross’ new song cycle, Carmina Spei (Songs of Hope) written for Brooke and virtuosic harpist, Alison Read. Together, they will also record this work for Mr. Gross' second album with New Focus Recordings. Brooke is ecstatic to perform her new concert series Depths of Hope with multiple organizations this season, will be returning with her Matinée Musicale recital series across the Metroplex and Midwest, as well as other professional artist engagements throughout the season.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Brooke stepped into the virtual realm guest performing with opera companies, arts organizations, and a multitude of churches across the Metroplex/Midwest. She created an educational Voice training series utilized by Metroplex/Midwest churches and schools, to build and strengthen singing voices preparing for virtual choirs, solo virtual performances, and the return to live singing. Brooke served as a consultant for several school districts preparing the safest ways for young singers to sing during this unprecedented time. She continues to provide vocal instruction for students of the Dallas, Frisco, McKinney, and Fort Worth Independent School Districts. All the while, she has maintained a private voice studio in-person (2 separate campuses, Brooke Clark Gibson Voice & Staging Studio) and online. Brooke is widely sought as a voice clinician and adjudicator, known for preparing high school seniors for the rigorous college audition process.
